Breach Protocol

Outbreak

Hold the line

Round-survival. The horde arrives in waves that never stop getting bigger, the guns are on the walls and you have to pay for them, and half the building stays dark until somebody finds the breaker.

The loop

You start with a pistol and 500 points. Everything after that you buy.

Step 1

Earn

Ten points a hit. Sixty for a kill, a hundred for a headshot kill, a hundred and thirty for a melee kill or for reviving a teammate. Ten every time you nail a plank back onto a window.

Step 2

Spend

Wall weapons from 500 points; re-buying ammo for a wall gun you already own costs half. The mystery box costs 950 and gives you something you did not choose.

Step 3

Open up

Debris gates cost points to clear and turn the map from one room into a route. Which gates you open decides where the horde funnels.

The power switch changes the map

Wall weapons, the mystery box and the debris gates all work in the dark. The perk machines and the upgrade machine do not. Finding and throwing the main breaker is the moment the run stops being about survival and starts being about a build.

Perks

Eleven perks, four at a time, all of them lost when you go down for good. Every machine needs power.

PerkCostEffect
Ironhide2,500Four zombie hits instead of two.
Fasthands3,000Reload and swap far faster.
Marathon2,000Sprint further, recover quicker.
Hellfire2,000Fire rate up on everything you carry.
Second Wind1,500Get back up faster when a teammate reaches you.
Galvanize2,000Melee hits far harder.
Packhorse4,000Carry a third weapon.
Deadeye1,500Headshots hurt more.
Crashpad2,000No fall damage.
Revenant2,000Come back on your own once, without a teammate.
Doppelganger2,000Keep your loadout through a death.

Costs are the shipped values. Effects are summarised for readability — the exact numbers are in the game.

The Forge

5,000 points, and the power on

Feed a gun into the Forge and it comes back with double damage, half again the magazine, double the reserve — and a new name. A Ranger SMG comes out as a Ranger Ascendant; a Vantage Rifle as a Vantage Sovereign. The rename is how you know at a glance whose run is further along.

And the gun that is not on any wall

One weapon exists only in the mystery box: Gravewell. It launches an anchor, and where it lands it opens a gravity well that takes the horde off its feet. It is weighted to come up roughly once every nineteen rolls — often enough that feeding the box is worth doing, rare enough that it stays the reason you feed it.

The horde

Six per round plus three for every round elapsed, capped by how many can be on their feet at once. They spawn nearest whoever is closest — the horde funnels toward you, not toward the middle of the map.

Walker

The baseline. Slow, weaves as it closes, and there are always more of them.

Runner

Twice a walker's pace and it lunges the last few metres. The reason you keep a corner behind you.

Crawler

Comes in under the sightline you are holding. Slow, quiet, and easy to miss.

Brute

Three times the health, hits half again as hard, and does not stagger the way the others do. Worth a hundred points if you can afford the ammunition.

Stalker

Fast, frail, and it hits quicker than anything else in the horde. Deals with campers.

Drops

Resupply, Overkill, Double Points, Reinforce, Cataclysm and more. Cataclysm clears the board and pays everyone; Reinforce nails every barricade back up at once.

Three ways to play it

Survival

Co-operative. Everyone against the horde, for as long as you can hold.

Grief

Two human teams on the same map, racing. You cannot shoot them. You can absolutely open a door for them.

Turned

One player is the survivor with a full loadout. Everybody else is the horde, hunting them — and whoever brings the survivor down takes the crown.

Custom lobbies can also start you at a later round if you would rather skip the quiet part.

Survivors

Coming in Season 1

Outbreak will get its own cast: eight named survivors whose passive comes out of who they were before this happened, rather than being chosen off a list. A field medic revives faster because she was a field medic.

Where it stands today: that roster is not in the current build. Outbreak is currently played with the Multiplayer operator bodies, and everyone has the same passives. The survivor cast, the separate Outbreak currency and shop, and the mode's own ranking ladder are all Season 1 work. See the season plan →

Where you play it

Outbreak runs on maps that author a real horde layout — boarded windows, buy stations, a power switch and debris gates placed by hand. It is never scattered across a Multiplayer arena that was not built for it. The dedicated Outbreak maps are rebuilding right now, so today's rotation leans on the dual-mode maps.
